Tell her she’s a good one.
I’m not talking about a long flowerly soliloquy or 4-page letter singing her praises (though those things are lovely). I’m talking about a spontaneous, off-the-cuff, unrehearsed, unexpected, heartfelt, simple exclamation of “You’re such a good mom!”
Someone did that to me once – and the comment was so brief and so unassuming that I didn’t actually realize what she said until the moment had passed. It just floated into my brain and settled somewhere deep in my heart.
You want to know what I did next? I got in my car and cried all the way home. And resolved to say the same thing to more women.
There are days I think I’m a great mom. There are days when I’m pretty certain I’m a crummy one and I wonder what poor Conlan did to win that lottery. There are also plenty of days in between.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way. Come on ladies, we’re so over the mommy wars. Why don’t we say it more often? Give a woman an unexpected gift and tell her she’s a good mom.
