Intentional Summer

Perhaps I should have published this on June 20 but here in the Pacific NW we have a standing joke that summer doesn’t actually start until July 5th, so I’m not really late.  🙂

We are a busy family and we love it that way.  However, it doesn’t just happen.  We have to be intentional about it or else the gorgeous northwest summer season will slip by and we’ll find ourselves in September wondering why we didn’t make any memories this year.

There are things we need to do and things we want to do, and it takes effort to get them all in.  Rusty has his Navy Reserve weekend once a month.  I serve a shift in the church nursery.  We both work full time.  I have events I want our family to attend.  Rusty has mountains he wants to climb.  We have a goal of at least 5 family camping trips per year.  And don’t forget that we would love to take a family vacation or trip to Minnesota to visit relatives.

We actually start our summer planning way back in February.  By April, every weekend of our summer is usually booked.  Memorial Day rolls around and the next three months fly by, but we arrive at Labor Day filled with family memories that will carry us through the drizzly, gray months until we get to do it again next year.

Amazing summers don’t just happen.  They are intentional.  Don’t waste what’s left of this one, make some family memories!  Today’s a great day to start.  Have a wonderful, safe, and memorable 4th!
