New Year, New Goals

For the past few years we have made it a point to set family goals. In 2012, we rocked it.

In 2013, not so much.

We achieved none of them. To be fair, some of our original goals were sidelined to achieve other things. We finally bought a truck like we wanted, but that came at the expense of our savings goal. We took family trips – which were wonderful – but cut into our camping season. My writing has been sparse and I’m now 2 years behind in family photo books. I decided I wanted to play with my kids and work on my website instead of tackling other projects.

During our annual year-end goal review the only one we gave ourselves partial credit for was “Take 5 camping trips” which we declared was “good enough.” We took four.

So here we are, about to cross the threshold of another year. One that we hope holds promise and potential. But that promise and potential takes work to mature into achievement, so we’ve set goals once again.

These goals include not just the boring things like health goals, college savings goals, and professional goals but also fun things like how many dates we will go on this year. {With each other. Just to clarify.}

And so, dear friends, my hope for you is that you see the promise and potential in 2014 and run head-on into the year and make it one full of memories.  Set a goal or two, make a plan, take some action.  Make life happen.

My hope for me is that you’ll see much more of me around here than you did in 2013. But if you don’t, I’m probably making memories. {Or doing laundry.}

Happy New Year!
