Life as a working mom changes from week to week, but few weeks are as challenging as the first one back at work after maternity leave or an extended time at home. Thus, I’m writing a 6-week series on the first week back at work: what to expect, how to prepare, and how to get through it.
What to expect: You made it! Heading out will be pretty easy today knowing you have two free days ahead. The day might drag in anticipation of the weekend, but you’ll be in pretty good spirits today.
How to prepare: I know we’re trying to get through a work day here, but it’s easier to get through the day when you feel like you have control at home. So, if you can, throw a load of laundry in the washer Thursday night. Knowing you have a jump-start on the weekend chores will really boost your mood for the day.
How to get through it: Get things done today so you don’t have to leave your mind at the office or – even worse – take work home with you. Tidy your office and make a list for next week so when you start the cycle again on Monday, you don’t start in chaos. Now get home and snuggle that baby!
