Thankful Thursday – Thankful for Being Known

I’m participating in Angela Strand‘s Thursday Thankful List link-up again this week.  Join us!

It’s a strange thing, being an introvert.  On the one hand I crave meaningful relationships but on the other hand it’s such hard work to develop them that they don’t happen as often as they probably should.

Solitude happens to be one of my love languages.  {I’m sure Gary Chapman will rectify his unfortunate omission whenever the next version of his book comes out.}  Last year when I was falling apart at the seams I went away for a one night mini mama-retreat at the suggestion of my husband.  This year I wanted to do the same just because it was such a wonderful, restful, rejuvenating experience the first time.

My husband didn’t hesitate to support me.

When I asked him to fix something in my car earlier this week he surprised me by vacuuming it, too.

I decided not to cook dinner one night and never even heard a comment that this was a problem.

I spent a fair amount of money on personal wants and he didn’t even blink.

He ran to the store and randomly brought me back a peanut butter cup.

This week I’m thankful to be known by a man who is able to support me when sometimes I don’t even know what I need.  Or sometimes I do but I don’t necessarily express it.  I’m not the easiest person to live with.  I can be crabby.  I can be bossy.  {I know.  Get your jaw off the floor.}  And though our marriage is by no means perfect, these small things speak volumes and make me very, very thankful.

A few other things I’m thankful for this week:

  • I’m presently obsessed (SERIOUSLY. OBSESSED.) with this song and as soon as I hopped in the car to head out of town, it came on.  I cranked that radio and enjoyed pure happiness.
  • A beautiful drive with no snow through the pass.
  • A super cozy and comfy and warm room.
  • The downhill side of the mountain.  Thankfully I had made it over the pass before my transmission quit.  Gravity came to my rescue, which was good because not only did I not have acceleration, I also didn’t have cell service.
  • Three smiling faces who welcomed me back home.
